Brown Nose is something new I learned today:

I encountered the “brown nose” phrase on John Cow and The Net Fool.

Since I am not a native English speaker, I had to google the term, and according to The Free Dictionary:

tr.v. brown·nosed, brown·nos·ing, brown·nos·es Informal
To curry favor with in an obsequious manner; fawn on.

It turns out the phrase has been around since 1930.

Moral of the story?

When you write for the Internet, you have to think of your international readers. Just because you understand what a “brown nose” is doesn’t mean they will.
