So without seeing your niche I would not be able to answer that exactly.   I don't think there is "an exact number of back-links" needed to rank number 1 for a search.  You can use tools like SEOMOZ Pro to analyze keywords phrases and how hard it is to rank for them.  This will analyze how many links the top competitors have linking back to them with that keyword hyperlink anchor text.   Thanks for visiting I hope this is helpful.  Hi Brian,
